Noam Chomsky - 2006 @ United Nations- - -Noam Chomsky has been writing on terrorism for 25 years, ever since the Reagan administration came in 1981 and declared that the leading focus of its foreign policy was going to be a war on terror. A war against state directed terrorism which they called the plague of the modern world because of their barbarism and so on. That was the center of their foreign policy and ever since Chomsky has been writing about terrorism." ... But what I write causes extreme anger for the very simple reason that I use the U.S. government's official definition of terrorism from the official U.S. code of laws. If you use that definition, it follows very quickly that the U.S. is the leading terrorist state and a major sponsor of terrorism and since that conclusion is unacceptable, it arouses furious anger. But the problem lies in the unwillingness to recognize that your own terrorism is terrorism. This is not just true of the United States, it's true quite generally. Terrorism is something that they do to us. In both cases, it's terrorism and we have to get over that if we're serious about the question. ..."

(From U.S. Code Title 22, Ch.38, Para. 2656f(d)(d) Definitions (2) the term "terrorism" means premeditated, politically motivated violence perpetrated against noncombatant targets by subnational groups or clandestine agents

@macculu501 Well, to Chomsky if it's a grievance against the West, it's reasonable, if it's a grievance by or for the West, then it's unreasonable. which why I hate the guy's guts. If I was President he would have been exiled to North Korea.

@TheGoldenKing20 IFF it is a reasonable grievance ~ not sure if you heard that one

Chomsky's anwer to terrorism: give them exactly what they want and hope they don't do it again.

It will eventually discourage violent grievances & encourage peaceful ones, and we'd be more likely to live by liberty & not by violent tyranny.

I agree with Chomsky... except in answering to grievances made by terrorists. I think that's a wrong approach to take; it's more like appeasement. It gives terrorists the idea that they can get what they want through violence & terror. That will eventually lead to a Mafia or strongman state. What I recommend instead, is to answer & work on solving grievances made by peaceful, non-violent people... and to ignore the grievances of terrorists while bringing them to justice.

@StunnedByStupidity 6) how many innocent civilians has Israel killed and how many have the Palestinians killed?7) You would be more than happy for the aid given to Israel to stop and be transfered to the Palestinians until parity in arms was established so the Palestinians could defend themselves?8) You support DEMOCRACY by agreeing with the majority opinion in the middle East that Iran SHOULD have nuclear weapons - if only to defend itself from Israeli aggression?
StunnedByStupidity (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
@StunnedByStupidity Oh there was a final few questions (i DARE you to answer):1) What was the Iraq war for?2) Does the US support dictators in the middle east and would you remain quiescent if you lived under one?3) How much land has the Palestinians stolen from Israel and how much has Israel stolen form the Palestinians?4) You are FOR DEMOCRACY and want a FAIR 2 state solution on the 1967 boarders?5) Was terrorism fine when Israelis were doing it when struggling for a state?
