@403766 it was thatcher that doubled VAT causing inflation which resulted in high interest rates which resulted in the 25% collapse of british manufacturing between 1979 and 1982. germany until recently was the world no. 1 exporter with only 82 million people compared to the USA with 310 million and china's 1300 million. britain is a joke. both belgium and ireland export more to india than britain. britain will experience the same callapse as argentina in 2001 and russia in 1998.

Mrs thatcher privatised companies that were not losing money but that had been nationalised because they went bust as private companies ie. a fraud on the tax payer and a handout for the rich. the pound sterling was massiveley overvalued at DM4.25 against the german mark due to interest rate policy, this killed off britain's manufacturing. today britain makes 1.3 million cars but germany makes 5.5 mi

@iglwy Its funny how you idiots with clearly no idea about economics. By the time she left unemployment had dropped by about a million then when she came in and inflation had dropped massively. She saved our country from going second world from the absolute state it was in in 1979. All those indistries that went were LOSING MONEY from the governemt which was piling the debt up back then. Thatcher actually got rid of a lot of it. Those industries would not have survived naturally.
