Why do you assume we only have a Manichaen choice of Libertarian Conservatism or Socialism? I think both have flaws. Read Isaiah Berlin's essay on Positive and Negative freedoms where he points out the weaknesses of both. Also, was Mrs Thatcher a libertarian? Far too in love with government spending, surely.
