I was happy to see John McCain select Alaska governor Sarah Palin as his running mate. She’s pro-gun, pro-life, and a reformer.

At the same time, however, I don't think her selection will help the neocon McCain in the eyes of real conservative base. She may pull in the swing voters, but with the popularity of Obama among the TV educated voters, McCain will still face an uphill battle.

Interestingly, Sarah Palin was also thought to be a potential VP running mate for Ron Paul and she had some good things to say about him during an MTV interview this past February. Palin called Republican presidential hopeful Ron Paul “cool.” “He’s a good guy,” she added. “He’s so independent. He’s independent of the party machine. I’m like, ‘Right on, so am I.’ ”
