Linda McMahon The Official Republican Candidate For Connecticut Senate Seat
Linda McMahon is the champion of the Republican primary and will be their candidate for the open Senate seat. One of the two seats for Connecticut is being contested this fall. She's the previous CEO of WWE Entertainment and wife of Vince McMahon Jr. Senator Chris Dodd is retiring when his term expires and Linda McMahon stepped down as CEO last year to run for the seat. Linda McMahon is not running a kayfabe campaign
Part of Linda McMahon's campaign is not taking any campaign contributions from public funds, Political Action Committees or special interests. She has, according to ABC, spent over $ 22 million from her own pocket and isn't really deterred by having to spend more up to November. She's running against Dick Blumenthal, the Connecticut Attorney General since 1991 and previously a member of the Connecticut House of Representatives and Connecticut State Senate.
What platforms is she running on?
Linda McMahon is a classic neo-conservative. Fiscal conservatism, and a strong platform of deregulation and creating jobs are issues that are central to her campaign. She is somewhat hawkish on Iran, but she's spoken in support of the Obama administration's approach to the war in Afghanistan. She isn't really afraid to break with Republican orthodoxy, as she has donated cash to a pro-choice PAC though she has said she's opposed to partial-birth abortions. She also is far more friendly to LGBT rights than the President is, as she has stated Don't Ask Don't Tell should go and also the marriage issue should be left to the states, as outlined by an interview with the Connecticut Mirror.
So is Linda McMahon a legit candidate?
An additional famous and rich person is running for office. Not that we have not seen that before, but she was the CEO of a company that became the only professional wrestling organization to be publicly traded and almost as popular as NASCAR. (The McMahons do own many of the shares.) A number of policies are incredibly popular, and voters may put her into office. Now all that remains to be seen is what you're going to do, brother, when Wrestle mania goes to DC?
