Is America Ready to Change Course?
Even though Barack Obama’s inauguration has happened, it may still be too early to tell whether the surge of patriotism we saw will continue. The 2009 election was one of the most historic the U.S. has ever had, but we don’t know yet whether that will be enough to keep people rallied behind President Obama and the country in general.
It would benefit all Americans if that happened, because we’ve been torn asunder long enough. For example, there would be great benefit to veterans if this unification happened. Many selflessly served their country, and in the case of the Viet Nam war, they sometimes didn’t get the appreciation they deserved when they came back to the U.S.. That is the reason I created some patriotic clip art that promotes the idea that we should pay tribute to veterans. This veterans clip art is just a small way we can all show our support. That appreciation could mean the world to veterans who have been disenfranchised. We need to honor veterans more often than just sending occasional vintage Veterans Day greeting cards. We need to appreciate their contributions all the time. As fellow Americans, we owe it to them. If we don’t extend that respect toward them; who will?
Not only veterans would benefit, however, from the U.S. having renewed interest in unity. It would be wonderful to see people saluting the American flag when on parade, because the sight of the flag moves them to express themselves. One would hope that love of country will help us unify. But will this reunification take place? Some people are vehemently opposed to the president’s changes. But it’s always that way with a new administration. Those checks and balances are important to make sure no one party gets out of control. We hope so anyway. Americans will just have to see what happens.
