Bill Clinton will destroy party to elect Hillary, says Democrat
By Mark Silva, Baltimore SunThe Clintons are ready to tear their party up — including making it impossible for Sen. Barack Obama to get elected president — the way Rep. James Clyburn tells it.While Obama himself has maintained that whatever breach is opened in the Democratic primaries by his contest with Hillary Clinton can be repaired once the Democrats have a presidential nominee, Clyburn, a political power in South Carolina and majority whip in the U.S. House, maintains that Bill Clinton is plowing Obama and the Democratic Party under in the interest of electing Hillary Clinton."I was sharing with the reporter the things that have been said to be,” Clyburn said last night on MSNBC, in a talk with Keith Olbermann on Countdown about interviews that he has given in recent days, "I have gotten a lot of mail from people, telephone calls."I was on the campus of a university (where) the excitement was great back in January and February,” Clyburn told Olbermann. "Now they seem to be feeling that the graybeards are positioning themselves to overturn the will of the people, these superdelegates - they don’t quite understand what the superdelegates are."They think we’re waiting in the closet somewhere to snatch this nomination away and so that’s a feeling that people have got.”This, courtesy of MSNBC, is a transcript of Clyburn’s interivew with Olbermann:KEITH OLBERMANN: Your statement to Reuters about what you’ve heard in South Carolina and what you’ve heard on the House floor in Washington. The quote was, "African Americans have reached the decision that the Clintons know the Clintons can’t win this but they are hell bound to make it impossible for Obama to win in November."Does that group include you, sir? Have you come to believe this yourself?CLYBURN: No. That didn’t include me. I was sharing with the reporter the things that have been said to be and I have just talked to her, an African American member on the House floor who said that to me and I have gotten a lot of mail from people, telephone calls. I was on the campus of a university was the excitement was great back in January and February. Now they seem to be feeling that the graybeards are positioning themselves to overturn the will of the people, these superdelegates - they don’t quite understand what the superdelegates are. They think we’re waiting in the closet somewhere to snatch this nomination away and so that’s a feeling that people have got.So that’s all I was saying, that people are saying this and I think it’s a great concern.OLBERMANN: Surely the specifics of the racial aspect to this are being overplayed, aren’t they? If anyone Democrat were to deliberately try to undermine another Democrat’s chances of winning in November, wouldn’t that just be, regardless of color, gender or anything else, would that not be political treason or something like it?
