Bartender Ticketed for Smoking After Hours
The customers were gone, and Lawrence bartender Tiffany Hurter was hanging out with a few friends after work.
She lit up a cigarette, and that's when police showed up.
The officer had come to investigate a report that the bar, Conroy's, was illegally serving drinks after 2:00 a.m. No drinking violations were found.
But Lawrence has a smoking ban in bars and restaurants and it applies even after hours. Hurter learned that when she was written a citation early Wednesday.
Normally, business owners are the only ones ticketed for violations. Hurter is the first non-owner to be cited under the ban.
